Is how it starts, even if you really just wanted to say something yourself. Perhaps "start" is a bad word. What I'm talking about is entering a conversation. It's not polite to butt into one with an 'I.' It's a blacklisted word. No matter how strongly you want to be heard,you need to start off with a 'What do you think about this?', or an 'Is that how you feel?' and only gradually lead into a 'but I think...' That's how it is, unless you're some manner of genius whom everyone wants to hear speak about a certain matter. Otherwise, the party that was already conversing is essentially doing you as favor by letting you talk and listen. It's only after you prove to be both interesting and inoffensive enough that you might be absorbed into the formal discussion. It's a system that works; if everyone follows it, everyone can be heard.
But, it feels a bit stifling, and that bothers me. It just doesn't feel right.
